HHS athletes named to provincial team

As I write this on Sunday night (missed the deadline again), we are getting a shower of rain. It is badly needed here and the frost has also given a hit to the crops. The following students from H.

Attending the awards gala in St Walburg May 27 were four of the nine to receive long term service awards from H. Hardastle School - John Pollard, Judy Levasseur, Louise Roach and Byron Merkosky.

As I write this on Sunday night (missed the deadline again), we are getting a shower of rain. It is badly needed here and the frost has also given a hit to the crops.

The following students from H. Hardcastle School were selected for the high school track provincial team in the event that it did take place. Those students were Kalin Sitter, Kelcey McCarthy, Keinyn Nordell, Kaitlyn McCarthy, Jesse Blais, Mikayla Detillieux, Owen LaClare, Joel Blaquiere, Reed Delainey, Marc LaClare, Bailey Delainey and McKenzie Nordell. Unfortunately the track meet was cancelled, but we are still proud of their accomplishments.

We have another crop of babysitters who have finished their babysitters course with their little buddy day May 27. These young people are Mason Blais (Graydon Troesch), Treyden Brennan (Emma Reid), Tyson Long (Kaylee Schmidt), Kade Mosimann (Kiana Weber), Aiden Sitter (Shyla Sitter), Cordell Beynon (Kye Thom), Jensen White (Grace Fudge), Melissa Monteith (Delainee Rogers), Brandon Nash (Autumn Bec), Taya Cole (Carter Cole) and Bailey Morin (Nate Poole). Congratulations to all of you on a job well done.

A bridal shower was held May 28 at 1 p.m. in the Legion Hut in honour of August bride elect, Jessica Weger. Jessica is the daughter of David and Carolyn Weger and will marry Gilbert LaClare, eldest son of Maurice and Diane LaClare, Aug. 6. Jessica presently teaches math, chemistry and physical education in Maidstone and will be starting a position at Turtleford Community School in the fall. Gilbert is locally employed as a welder and the couple will be making their home in Edam.

A bridal shower was held in honour of June bride elect, Ashley Kobes, at 7 p.m. in the Legion Hut. Ashley, only daughter of Michael and Pauline Kobes of Edam, will marry Colin Sharp, son of Randy Sharp of Prince and Janice Sharp of North Battleford, June 18. The couple will be making their home at Prince where Colin is farming and Ashley travels to work at BUH. Congratulations to both couples.

Congratulations to Bob Haliday, who celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends with a come and go tea at the Legion Hut May 29. May you have many more birthdays to celebrate.

On the evening of May 27, long term service awards were presented by the Nortwest School Division No. 203 at St. Walburg. There were nine staff members from HHS who received recognition for their years of service; Byron Merkosky- principal (30 years), Judy Levasseur- school bus driver, John L. Pollard -school bus driver, Louise Roach - EA, Patti Formanek - teacher (25 years), Gary Deobald - teacher, Gwen Holloway- EA/assistant janitor (20 years), John Roach- school bus driver (15 years), Heather Bru -school bus driver (10 years). Congratulations and thank you for your service to the youngsters of the community.

That will be it for this week. Hopefully we will get a lot more rain, the frost hasn't helped the situation any for the crops and alfalfa fields.
