Residents enjoy Thanksgiving festivities

Hello again. It's been a little cooler this last few days, but we've been so lucky so far this fall, no snow and the sun seems to always peek through. Can we be so lucky in November? We'll have to just wait and see.

Hello again. It's been a little cooler this last few days, but we've been so lucky so far this fall, no snow and the sun seems to always peek through. Can we be so lucky in November? We'll have to just wait and see.

Thanksgiving was a lovely weekend so here's some news from our tenants.

Mary Deerborn relates that Oct. 9 she went out to the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Blair and Anna, on the farm at Richard for Thanksgiving dinner. Their son Brennan (her grandson) was home from Esterhazy, so it was nice to see him, too.

Oct. 10, Mary went out to Maymont to the home of her grandson Kyle and Jennifer Combres. They were celebrating Thanksgiving with their daughter's third birthday. There were five of her great-grandchildren there and a number of other family members. So, all in all, Mary had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Anne Loades was glad to have her niece Valeria and her husband Jim Napier from Edmonton, Alta. here to spend Thanksgiving with her. I'm sure you had a nice visit, Anne.

Winnifred Webb had a lovely visit with her cousin Jean Halliday from Luseland for the day.

Helen Blackstock and her daughter motored to Saskatoon to meet her sister, who arrived from Kelowna, B.C. She visited here with Helen for a few days. I'm sure you both enjoyed your visit.

Ruby Hrabia was happy to have her grandson from Lloydminster come to see her.

I had a lovely Thanksgiving, too, with my daughter and all the family in Battleford. It was especially nice to see my little great-granddaughter from Red Deer.

Oct. 14, Second to None catered a delicious turkey supper for our Thanksgiving here at the high rise. Then we all enjoyed being entertained by Dwight Hemmerling, John Archer, Leon Ochs and Benny Stenerson. Their singing and music is just great.

Oct. 20, many of us who write reports for the News-Optimist were invited (compliments of Battlefords Publishing) to a luncheon at Pennydale restaurant in Battleford. After a tasty meal and a nice visit with the other reports we had a tour of the News-Optimist. It was interesting to see how the newspapers are laid out and published for us. Much of it is computerized now like everything. It was an enjoyable afternoon. Thank you to Battlefords Publishing.

On the weekend of Oct. 22, George and Nancy Milnthrop drove to Melfort to visit their granddaughter and family, Stacey and Dan Meyers. While there they also went to two hockey games to see their great-grandson, Tyson, playing one in Melfort and one in Prince Albert. Sounds like a good time, folks.

Halloween turned out to be a lovely day and especially for the children who went out trick and treating. We also had a great time in the lounge Oct. 31. A Halloween party was organized by Bob Sarassin and his helpers. Everyone dressed up in colourful costumes and it was fun trying to recognize who was behind the masks. Then games were played and prizes given to the winners. The best costumes were judged and winners were Joan Blixrud as a witch and to Ray Corbeil as a very busty woman. The evening ended with a delicious lunch. Thank you to all those who helped make it such an enjoyable time.

We are sorry to hear some of our tenants are moving out on account of health reasons. Namely Mildred Zander and Marjory Mounsell. We will miss you both, but hope you'll be happy where you go to live.

Get well wishes to anyone who has the flu or is in hospital.

Welcome to all newcomers. We hear some are moving in here in November. I will have some names later.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Ella and Marvin Bates and family on the loss of their mother and grandmother Jane Irving. She resided here at Tower II and we will all miss her.

That's all the news for this month. Hope you got your flu shot.
