Slo-pitch tourney draws 16 teams

The weather seems to be helping out the spring seeding and garden causes. This weekend the ball diamond hosted the 17th annual Miners slo-pitch. Weather held out for a change. Sixteen teams participated for a $2,400 cash payout.

The weather seems to be helping out the spring seeding and garden causes.

This weekend the ball diamond hosted the 17th annual Miners slo-pitch. Weather held out for a change. Sixteen teams participated for a $2,400 cash payout. Paradise Road had patrons dancing up a storm.

The ball diamonds continue to be busy through the week as all teams are playing on a given night. Right from the youngest teams through to the bantams and midgets in both baseball and fastball are playing their league games, while travelling to tournaments on the weekend. The squirt girls' softball teams is hosting a home tournament June 4, while the bantams girls' softball host a double header against Maidstone Sunday at 2 p.m.

May 27, UPS held their annual track meet under overcast skies, but the sunshine and warmth left for many happy participants. It truly is a great family event put on by the staff at UPS. A great time was had by all.

The Unity soccer club plans to host a tournament June 18. If you are looking for an event sure to put a smile on your face, the soccer kids will certainly be glad to have you cheer them on.

Barbecue season is upon us. May 26, Parkview Place held a barbecue for residents and community members alike. As well the grads cooked up burgers in the Shop Easy parking lot as part of their last fundraising effort for grad. May 27, the long term care folks held a barbecue for residents and families and I heard there was wonderful dessert to compliment the meal.

If you didn't get to the town office on May 24 and 25 to register your child for swimming lessons, you can still register your kids for swimming at the town office. After these dates, you can register right at the pool which is slated to open June 5.

And don't forget another big event is coming up in Unity. The annual westerns days and rodeo take place June 3, 4, and 5. There will be many events including the annual citizen of the year banquet Friday as well as a parade Saturday at 1 p.m. The weekend will include pancake breakfasts, barbecues and rodeo events and the like.

The RCMP musical ride is slated to take place on June 8, with a few tickets still availabe. Call Brian Woytiuk at Unity Motor Products.

Congratulations to these west central farming families for being honored for 100 years on the land: Glenn Kratchmer, Vernon Knowles, Gord and Faye McLean, Travis Schaab and Scott Vetter. They along with 68 other west central farm families and among 525 in the province are being honoured by Information Services Corporation for 100 years of continuous family agriculture. Families earning this distinction will receive a century family farm award, for which only members of the same family who have farmed the land for 100 years can apply, and must be a current resident of Saskatchewan, as well as actively farming the land.
