About 45 members and friends of the Sons of Norway gathered at the Do Drop In Sunday afternoon for a time of playing games - Norwegian whist, canasta and crokinole. As the afternoon progressed, people kept coming in, many with casseroles or other foods. Guests came from as far as Dillon, Buffalo Narrows, Meadow Lake, Belbutte and south of Battleford, even though it was very cold.
The traditional Norwegian Christmas meal was set out buffet-style and we ate some new and some familiar dishes, all very tasty. Even the nudfisk was pleasant tasting. Other main course dishes included cod in a cheese sauce, Swedish meat balls, sweet and sour red cabbage, cheeses and other dishes. On the dessert table were milk lefsa and potato lefsa, rosettes, fattigman (poor man's cookies), vinartarta and sandbakkels. Also was the bowl of ricekrem, with chokecherry or Nanking cherry syrup.
One door prize - a wooden, chip carved clock, made by Ralph Soiseth, was won by Robert Iverson. The second prize of a large Christmas wreath, made by Marion Ottas, was won by Lindsay Woodrow. The 50/50 was won by Oral Zacharias of Meadow Lake - a consolation as his name was also drawn to wash dishes, which he didn't mind one bit. His assistant was Kent Morton from Summerfield Beach.
Following supper, and after many folks had left, those remaining played cards and the horse race game, amid lots of laughter by the players.
Last but not least was a visit from Eunice, the miniature pig, who was reluctant to leave.
