Parents and grandparents gathered alongside students and teachers June 21 for the annual Neilburg Composite School awards day for Grades 7 through 12.
The afternoon program began with master of ceremonies Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow, introducing Ashlee Goodfellow who sang O Canada.
First up on the agenda were the proficiency awards. Mr. Walso presented the Grade 7 award, on behalf of the Lloydminster and District Co-op Association, to Jenna McGarry. Mariah Nattress won the Grade 8 award. It was also sponsored by the co-op and was presented by Mrs. Knorr-Bingham. Mr. Gieni presented the Grade 9 award to Taryn Timmermans, on behalf of Viterra. Kasey Schmidt was the recipient of the Grade 10 award. It was presented by Mr. Gieni and sponsored by the Village of Neilburg.
Ms. Waldorf presented the Grade 11 and 12 awards, which were both provided by the Cut Knife detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Shannon Putnam was the top Grade 11 student and Brenna Tyler took the Grade 12 award.
Worthy students from each grade level then received honour roll certificates. In order to obtain this status, students had to maintain an average of 80 to 89 per cent. To obtain high honours, their average needed to be 90 per cent or higher.
Mr. Walso presented honour certificates to the following Grade 7 students: Ethan Moir, Colby Urlacher, Caleb Biensch, Bryce Conlon, Kailey Kurtz, Joshua Blackman and Kristian Hiscock. Reaching high honours were Jenna McGarry, Jordan McGarry and Erin Houlton.
Mrs. Knorr-Bingham presented honour certificates to the Grade 8 students. Recipients included Courtney Cammidge, Pryhcia Carrigan-Beauregard, Breanna Conlon, Kylie Goodfellow, Lauren Loy, Chloe Marshall, Levi McIntosh, Taylor Morgan, Loralee Ryan, Bailey Tyler and Bailey Zweifel. Obtaining high honours in Grade 8 were: Kailee McGarry, Mariah Nattress, Shaelyn Putnam, Paige Watson, Taryn Black, Madison Fouhse and Gracie McCord.
Five students in Grade 9 were presented with honour certificates by Mr. Gieni. They were: Hanna Herle, Brandon Ironbow, Abby Lambert, Christine Madlang-Awa and Connor Urlacher. Taryn Timmermans was the sole high honours recipient.
Due to Mr. Worman's absence (there was a conflicting field trip), Mr. Gieni also presented the honours certificates for the Grade 10 students. The worthy recipients were Kaibre Watson, Danielle Scott, Brandon Morgan and Ashley Ostrom. High honours went to Kasey Schmidt, Laura Hegel, Jonah Biensch and Coleman Tyler.
Grade 11 honour students obtained their certificates from Ms. Waldorf. They were Chad Graham, Shayla Koedyk, Avery Moir, Chantal Ryan and Dustin Hafner. High honours went to Marissa Brockhoff, Ashlee Goodfellow, McKayla Granger, Eli Jacquest and Shannon Putnam.
Members of the graduating class, receiving certificates from Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow, were Landon Watson, Arlee Walde, Dayneeka McCulloch and Taylor Herle. High honours went to Brenna Tyler, Lukas Biensch, Carrie McGladdery and Alex Foster.
The next item on the program was the presentation of the achievement awards for the various individual subject areas. For science and mathematics, Jordan McGarry was the Grade 7 winner. Mariah Nattress was the top Grade 8, Taryn Timmermans won for Grade 9 and Kasey Schmidt was the top Grade 10. Shannon Putnam took the Grade 11 science/math award.
Mrs. Knorr-Bingham presented the humanities award for the highest overall average in English and social studies to: Jenna McGarry, Grade 7; Mariah Nattress, Grade 8; Christine Madlang-Awa, Grade 9; Kasey Schmidt. Grade 10; Shannon Putnam, Grade 11; and Carrie McGladdery, Grade 12.
In the area of applied arts, Mr. Gieni presented the awards for the highest overall average in home economics, industrial arts, computers, information processing or accounting to: Erin Houlton, Grade 7; Paige Watson, Grade 8; Taryn Timmermans, Grade 9; Kasey Schmidt, Grade 10; and Chad Graham, Grade 11.
Mr. Gieni also presented the fine arts award for the highest overall average in music, drama or visual arts. The winners were: Jenna McGarry, Grade 7; Mariah Nattress, Grade 8; Hanna Herle and Connor Urlacher, tied, Grade 9; Laura Hegel, Grade 10; and Ashlee Goodfellow, Grade 11.
Principal Worman presented the Doolittle Award for the most improved student overall to Quinton Ryan.
Brenna Tyler was the recipient of the credit union award for the highest mark in Grade 12 mathematics or science. She had an average of 92.4 per cent and also received a $1,000 cheque from Synergy Credit Union for her efforts. This prize was presented by Jan Trimble, the manager of the Neilburg branch of this instituation, and Curtis Dorner, manager of the Marsden branch.
