Students present Go West musical

Students in Grades 5 and 6 at Neilburg Composite School performed a musical, Go West, June 2. The students were dressed in western wear while they sang and presented this dramatic tale.

The students were dressed in western wear while they sang and presented this dramatic tale. Parents and community members donated money to the relief efforts in Slave Lake, Alta., with $134.50 raised at the door.

Students in Kindergarten and Grades 1 and 2 went to Lloydminster, June 9. They started their morning at Explosion Gymnastics where the children moved around on the parallel bars, balance beams, trampolines and other equipment. From there, the group went to Bud Miller All Seasons Park to eat their bag lunches and to play on the equipment. After lunch, the group went swimming in the Leisure Centre. The students swam in the wave pool and went down the water slide.

Congratulations to Gerald and Anna Groenen on their upcoming 60th wedding anniversary. They will be celebrating this momentous occasion in early July with a party at Manitou Lake.

There is a new, part-time stylist at Myra's Hair Etc. in Marsden. Riki-lee Hesterman will be in the salon on Thursdays.

The Neilburg Verterinary Clinic will be closing for the summer months, as of June 30. It will reopen in late September.

The Neilburg Kindergarten students are learning about careers in the community. The group will be touring several local businesses. They have already walked downtown to visit Synergy Credit Union and the co-op grocery store. Before the end of the term they will visit Pat Gibbons Ford dealership, Knickers Hair Salon and the Canada Post outlet.

The Tri-Meet, which was held at Neilburg Composite School, turned out to be a great day. Two of the local students earned medals. Congratulations to Jorin Black, who is a Grade 5 girl who won in the B event and Ethan Moir who received recognition as a Grade 6 boy in the A event. Ethan also tied with two other records in high jump and standing long jump. The parent, student and staff volunteers really helped make this day a success.

The Grade 9 students recently enjoyed a field trip to Wainwright, Alta. According to Mrs. Kerr-Goodfellow, the group spent the day at the Communiplex wall climbing, playing wallyball and swimming. The class also managed to consume a large amount of pizza at Boston Pizza over the lunch hour. Carla Schmidt was the bus driver.
