Trip to Lloyd includes Ag Ed Day, the fire hall, a vet clinic and Dairy Queen

The Grade 1 and 2 class from Marsden Jubilee School (MJS) went to Ag Education Day in Lloydminster April 24. The students learned about the care of various farm animals such as pigs, cows, sheep, horses and chickens.

The Grade 1 and 2 class from Marsden Jubilee School (MJS) went to Ag Education Day in Lloydminster April 24. The students learned about the care of various farm animals such as pigs, cows, sheep, horses and chickens. They also learned about the products these animals give us. Each exhibit gave us one product which we put into our shopping bag; then we cashed our products in for cookies and a juice. It was a fun morning.

While the Grade 1 and 2s were at Ag Day, the kindergarten students visited the Lloydminster Fire Hall. They learned about fire safety and the different types of fire trucks. Sitting inside Lloydminster's first fire truck was the highlight of the trip.

After the tours, the group met for lunch and then went to Weaver Park for a short playtime. Then the students headed over to the Weir Veterinary Clinic for their next tour. The children got to see X-rays, listen to a dog's heartbeat and play in the large animal room. The highlight of the visit, however, was seeing the brand new puppies which were only 30 minutes old! A visit to Dairy Queen completed the day in Lloydminster prior to the bus ride home.

The Italian family feast was another successful fundraiser. Thanks to the Marsden Dance Club for their great performances. Ashton and Tanner did a great job as the DJs and Mario and Luigi stopped by with treats for the children. The students did festive artwork to add to the atmosphere. The Marsden School Community Council was grateful to the Manitou Lake Bible Camp for allowing them to use the kitchen facilities.

Railway Confectionary donated candy for the event and Andrew and Geoff, who are volunteer firefighters, collected admission at the door. We hope everyone enjoyed their evening and thanks again to the whole community for their continued support.

MJS celebrated Easter with a fun-filled afternoon April 5. Students decorated eggs and cookies, participated in relay races and went on a treasure hunt outside the school.

The amazing Earthcare Balloon arrived at Marsden Jubilee School April 25. The Earthcare Balloon is a 6.7 metre, highly detailed scale model of the earth printed with satellite images of the world's oceans, deserts, forests, mountains and cities. Students were able to go inside the balloon to view the amazing diversity of our planet. A representative from Earthcare Connections gave a presentation to the students, helping them to gain a better understanding of our Earth, as well as getting us thinking about our responsibility for taking care of the Earth.

The Earthcare Balloon offered a unique and fun way to foster respect for our natural resources and to think about what each of us can do to take care of our home, the Earth. Thank you, Earthcare Connections, for a very informative and exciting opportunity to see our Earth close up!
