2 men charged with drug trafficking, weapons offences appear in court

When police searched the vehicle that Troy Amson, Steven Vu, and Devin Bonick were in they found a loaded handgun and cocaine

NORTH BATTLEFORD – Two men charged with drug trafficking and weapons offences following a traffic stop had more court appearances.

The attendance in North Battleford Provincial Court was waived Thursday for 33-year-old Troy Amson and 35-year-old Steven Vu, both of Maidstone.

Warrants to hold were issued until the there is a designation of counsel for both and their matters were adjourned to Sept. 21.

Court heard that Vu just retained counsel and Amson is in the process of retaining counsel.

Another co-accused, 33-year-old Devin Bonick from Lloydminster appears in court next on Aug. 29.

The three were arrested in May after police got calls about an erratic driver on Highway 16. When police searched their vehicle they found a loaded handgun and about 112 grams of cocaine.

They were all charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, four firearms-related offences, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Vu was additionally charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer, and driving while prohibited.

The charges against Vu, Amson, and Bonick haven’t been tested in court.
