The latest offering of lots to come on line in the town of Battleford will range from $72,000 to as high as $183,000, plus GST. They could be for sale by August, or sooner, depending on how the installation of curbing times out.
Battleford Town Council set the prices for the 32 lots at a regular council meeting May 21. The cost of the lots is based on a rate per square metre.
The lots are located on three cul-de-sacs between Battle Springs Drive on the north and 10th Street (Campbell Innes Way) on the south. Some, said Town Administrator Sheryl Ballendine, as designed as walkouts.
Most of residential lots in the town are between 650 and 700 square metres, Ballendine added, but some of these new lots are almost two and half times that size.
Mayor Derek Mahon said, generally speaking, the lots in the $72,000 to $80,000 price range are ones at the north ends of the cul-de-sacs. Further south on the cul-de-sacs the lots are more pie-shaped, so they are much bigger, he said, and so the prices are higher too.
One is significantly higher than the rest, he said, but it's a big lot. It has a small frontage but a big backyard. Just because of the configuration, he said it couldn't be divided into two lots.
Curbing of the area is scheduled to start July 1. That could take a few weeks, and once it's done the lots can be put up for sale. Whether or not there will be a lot lottery will depend on how much interest is shown. Maps of the area will be available at Town Hall, but the town doesn't hold any lots for anyone prior to them going on sale, Ballendine said.
