The son who killed prominent Saskatoon lawyer Ian Buckwold will have a psychiatric assessment done at Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford.
Alvin Buckwold, 31, was ordered to undergo the assessment by a Prince Albert judge Tuesday.
Buckwold is charged with second degree murder in the death of Ian Buckwold. His body was discovered at Emma Lake July 14.
Alvin has suffered from schizophrenia for several years. The 30-day psychiatric assessment is to determine whether he is fit to stand trial and whether he is criminally responsible. A toxicology screening has been ordered as well.
The case returns to court in Prince Albert Aug. 20 after the assessment.
