Ryan Bater is the new executive director of the Battlefords Tourism and Convention Association.
The news was announced Friday by the organization.
While it is a new permanent role for Bater, he is no stranger to Battlefords Tourism, as he has been working for the organization as a contractor since 2012.
His professional background is in economic development and he served several years as general manager of the Battlefords Regional Economic Development Authority.
Bater was also provincial leader of the Liberal party and currently is in his first term on North Battleford city council.
The Battlefords Tourism and Convention Association had been recruiting for a new executive director following the major changes to its organization this year, to expand its responsibility to also include convention attraction and business opportunity marketing. The organization plans to add a tourism and event co-ordinator in the coming months.
Board chair Malcolm Anderson welcomes Bater to his new role.
"Over the past few months of transition, we have seen the commitment and leadership that Ryan brings with him," Anderson said in a statement.
"The effort that he has put forward with our ambassador program is already showing positive results and I personally can only see it getting better and better over time."
In a statement, Bater called his new role a "tremendous opportunity."
"I am excited about the new initiatives the Board is planning and I feel fortunate to be a part of it. The Battlefords is positioned well for new investment and opportunity and this organization is going to be at the forefront of all of that."
