Battlefords RCMP seek witnesses after firearm discharged at police vehicle

The hood of a police vehicle was struck by the discharge of a firearm on Mosquito First Nation. No one was injured

THE BATTLEFORDS - Battlefords RCMP are asking for anyone who saw a Chevrolet Cruz driving on Mosquito First Nation Sept. 21 to help with their investigation. The police were fired upon from the suspect vehicle.

On Sept. 21, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report that two individuals were travelling on the Mosquito First Nation with firearms.

While officers were investigating this complaint, a firearm was discharged at one of the police vehicles while an officer was driving it. The hood of the police vehicle was struck. No one was injured.

The firearm was discharged from a dark blue 2011 Chevrolet Cruze. Officers followed it to a residence on the Mosquito First Nation. The occupants of the vehicle fled. Battlefords RCMP, with the assistance of additional Saskatchewan RCMP units, contained the area and later executed a search warrant at the residence. The Chevrolet Cruze was seized.

The Saskatoon General Investigation Section has now taken carriage of this investigation, and are being assisted by Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford and Saskatoon Forensic Identification Sections and the Prince Albert and North Battleford General Investigation Sections. The scene of the firearm discharge, the residence on Mosquito First Nation, the police vehicle and the Chevrolet Cruze are being processed for evidence.
