The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce continues its preparations towards hosting the Best Business Showcase event in October.
Chamber Executive Director Linda Machniak reported that 45 per cent of the booths have been sold for the event, with roughly over $37,000 in revenue coming in and $6,000 in expenses reported.
That news was presented at the regular Chamber directors meeting held May 21.
Work continues on marketing and advertising items, and Machniak noted work to secure talent for the event is ongoing. As soon as contracts are in place they will be able to put out a schedule and make some announcements, she told the directors.
The event, scheduled to take place at the NationsWEST Field House during Small Business Week, is a trade show designed to be a showcase of the best of what businesses in the Battlefords have to offer. The event is scheduled for Oct. 24, 25 and 26.
Other Chamber initiatives and events touched on at the meeting included the recent Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce conference on business held in North Battleford, the Chamber's hosting of the joint State of the City/State of the Town address at Fort Battleford and the BBEX Awards in the fall.
Also at the meeting, Machniak confirmed what was already known: that changes to the traffic bylaw had passed at a previous City of North Battleford council meeting.
The Battlefords Chamber had lobbied for changes to address concerns raised by truckers about the hefty fees assessed for those heavy vehicles going off the main trucking routes into the city.
