Big River woman charged after fatal collision

Investigation has determined that a truck and a side-by-side collided

A 50-year-old male driving a side-by-side and passenger, a 42-year-old male, were both declared deceased at the scene.

A Big River woman has been charged after two men were killed in a collision.

On Sept. 5, at approximately 1:40 a.m., Big River RCMP were dispatched to a collision on Big River First Nation.

Investigation has determined that a truck and a side-by-side collided on a roadway near the high school. The side-by-side‘s driver, a 50-year-old male, and passenger, a 42-year-old male, were both declared deceased at the scene. Both men were from the Big River First Nation. Their families have been notified.

The driver and the passenger of the truck were transported to hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of investigation, the driver, Sheila Rabbitskin, 40, of Big River First Nation, was arrested and charged with:

  • 2 counts, impaired operation of a conveyance causing death, Section 320.14(3), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, operation while prohibited, Section 320.18, Criminal Code

She will appear in court on Sept. 7.
