Both co-accused charged in connection to the death of Mark Jonson will stand trial for first-degree murder.

Nicholas Buck, 23, was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing this week to see if there was enough evidence to go to trial. Buck appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court April 28 via CCTV and consented to go straight to trial. A trial will be held in Battlefords Court of Queen’s Bench before a judge and jury.

In March, Buck’s co-accused, David Keller, 48, was committed to stand trial in Battlefords Court of Queen’s Bench by judge and jury.

The two were arrested in July 2019 after North Battleford RCMP found a deceased man found in a home of the 1500 block of 100 Street on July 5, 2019. The victim was identified as Mark Douglas Jonson, 61, of North Battleford. Police didn’t say how Jonson died.

Police arrested Keller on July 11, 2019, and issued a warrant for Buck. Buck was arrested July 13, 2019, without incident. The two have been held in custody since their arrest.

Dates for the trials for both Buck and Keller are yet to be determined.
