CARROT RIVER— Carrot River Flavours of the Outback weekend, which includes the KCRA Rodeo, is still planned for mid-August— but how that may look is still up in the air.
Flavours of the Outback weekend is set to take place from Aug. 14 to 16.
Kevin Trew, Carrot River’s administrator said the town is hoping that by the time of the event, mass gatherings will be allowed under provincial guidelines.
“We are being mindful of the pandemic and keeping tabs, going to abide by all rules,” Trew said. “As circumstances change, or don’t with the pandemic, we’ll have to access information and plan accordingly.”
He said that the worst case scenario for the town is that mass gatherings will not be allowed, at which point the events would have to be postponed or cancelled.
“While we hope mass gatherings of a certain size will be allowed, we’re not super confident it will be an unlimited number of people. We’ll have to do our best to figure out how to run an event where physical distancing is abided by whatever the rules are at this time.”
Trew said one of the reasons they are still planning to put the weekend on, is that the events have had sponsors come forward and committed to continue their sponsorship despite the pandemic.
“Some of the sponsors that the rodeo has had, have come forward and committed to saying, ‘Yes, we’re still in.’ The same as Flavours of the Outback for Friday night, we have a major sponsor that has come on board,” Trew said, adding that the major sponsor is for their entertainment.
While the entertainment hasn’t been officially announced by the town, the Carrot River and District Recreation Board gave a “sneak peek” into the performer on April 5— which was revealed to be Topher Mils.
Mils is a country singer and guitarist from Saskatoon.
“He’s an up and coming Saskatchewan artist and has quite a large following in the province,” Trew said. “We’re really excited to have him here, it’s just a next level type of entertainment.”
