Fears - founded or unfounded - about the future of the Northwest Territorial Days exhibition made their way to North Battleford council Monday.

It came in the form of an Aug. 16 letter from West Coast Amusements, the midway operator at the annual exhibition on the Battlefords Ag Society grounds.

In that letter from Bob and Wendy Hauser, West Coast Amusements expressed "an important concern that our company has along with several other factions of the fair industry, that the City of North Battleford may close the annual Northwest Territorial Days Exhibition in the near future."

The letter went on to outline their support for the fair and the economic activity generated, and concluded by stating "we are certain the City of North Battleford is taking everything into consideration before making any hasty decisions."

Plans to shut down the exhibition came as news to a surprised-looking Mayor Ian Hamilton, who made clear the City had no such intentions.

"It's been alleged to them that the City of North Battleford may close the annual Northwest Territorial Days," said Hamilton.

"I would report to you that I responded to that letter saying no, there is no intent at all in any shape or form, to in any way close the Territorial Days fair. So we look forward to many years of service yet to the city of North Battleford by West Coast Amusements."
