St. Walburg, like so many other Alberta and Saskatchewan communities, is concerned about its present lack of handicapped and senior accommodation for persons unable to live on their own.
St. Walburg and Area Senior Care Initiatives has been formed to study and, if possible, alleviate this shortage of assisted accommodation space.
All board and executive members of SWASC are volunteers. The organization has been functioning since October 2011. It was officially incorporated by the provincial government on Dec. 28, 2011. Then it took until April 9, 2014 to meet the requirements for charitable registration under the Income Tax Act.
SWASC can now issue tax deductible receipts for donations to this important cause.
SWASC members have had much discussion and have received considerable citizen input, suggestions and ideas since then. Some donations have been made.
SWASC is grateful to donors and for ideas, questions and suggestions. In addition it is in the process of preparing a survey form. This form will be available to anyone, anywhere. It will also be circulated in the St. Walburg community to as many people as are interested.
The purpose of the survey is to inquire about what form of accommodation is most required and requested. SWASC realizes how difficult it is to determine precisely what form of accommodation will be most needed. This is because it will, understandably take some time before adequate dollars can be raised.
Nonetheless this seems like an excellent time to promote SWASC's intentions and invite public input of every sort.
