Here are some more highlights from the Sept. 9 council meeting in North Battleford (information provided courtesy of City Marketing And Communications Co-ordinator Mike Halstead.)
The draft 2012 Financial Statement and supporting documents were reviewed by Beverly Allison from Holm Clements Kwong Svenkeson Raiche Chartered Accountants. The documents will be posted to the City's website once it is officially approved at the next council meeting.
Councillor Greg Lightfoot pointed out a number of trees were leaning over in Killdeer Park, some of which were damaged during the June 2012 windstorm that destroyed many trees in North Battleford. The Department of Parks and Recreation will investigate the issue.
As well, Lightfoot expressed his desire to see the City maintain the dirt road coming out of the north end of Killdeer Park, citing possible emergency situations as a reason. City Manager Jim Toye noted the City does not own the road but pledged discussions with the property owner for permission to maintain and use the road.
In new business, council has approved a tender from Fort Garry Fire Trucks to supply a custom built, top mount enclosed fire truck for $540,000 plus GST. Fire chief Albert Headrick has been authorized to expend up to $10,000 as contingency in the event of change orders.
The new truck would replace an existing aging custom top-mount pumper that will turn 25 years old in 2014. According to Headrick's memo to council, current ULC guidelines do not consider trucks over 25 years of age towards the community's fire protection rating.
There was an update on the pocket housing project: detail design for the building at 1322 - 103rd St. will be completed this week and go to tender next week.
Finally, in proclamations Mayor Ian Hamilton proclaimed Sept. 9 as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day in North Battleford.
