If a disaster happened right now, would you be able to take care of yourself for 72 hours?
Disaster planning is alive and well in your area.
Our mutual aid area extends from the RM of Turtle River west to the Saskatchewan/Alberta border. We have held several mutual aid meetings to establish a protocol for requesting help from our neighbour municipalities.
The RM of Frenchman Butte is in the process of putting together a trailer to be used as a mobile command post in a disaster or a major fire, for use by all members of our mutual aid agreement area. We hope to be taking it around to events so people can see what it is all about and why it is needed.
Your local councils are working hard learning their roles and responsibilities in the case of a disaster in their area. We have done hazard analysis in some areas to identify what is considered the most likely scenarios we might encounter and are preparing for such.
We have developed resource lists from contractors to local farmers and individuals. If you haven't filled out a survey asking what resources you have that you would be willing to contribute, please contact your municipal or town office. We need your participation in disaster planning and we need you to have a plan in place so that you can help yourselves for 72 hours.
A pamphlet called Three Steps to Emergency Preparedness - 72 hours is available online at GetPrepared.ca and at your municipal or town offices.
