Here's a look at some of the events coming up this week.
Are you a writer? Share your work at the Writers' Open Mike in Central Park (weather permitting) next to the North Battleford Library on Wednesday, May 29 at 7 p.m.
For the gardeners of the community, take note of the Battlefords Horticultural Society's Spring Plant Sale at 9026-17th Ave., across from Bready School in North Battleford. It runs from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 30.
On Thursday, May 30, consider yourself invited to a program for your heart health. It's the Heart 2 Heart Program, beginning that day, consisting of five short sessions covering topics such as your heart and how it works, medications, physical activity, healthy eating, coping with your condition and effects of stress. It runs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Primary Health Centre in North Battleford on the 30th, and again June 3, 10, 17 and 20.
It's that time again. A Taste of Culture! If you enjoy trying new foods, or enjoying favourites you can only get once a year at this event, head out to the Western Development Museum May 30, 31 and June 1. In addition to great food from around the world, there will be entertainment, a marketplace and more (including karaoke). The hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Just remember, there is no ATM on the premises, and the vendors take cash only.
The annual Relay for Life is approaching and supporters are getting ready. Among them is River Heights Lodge, with a Relay for Life Barbecue Friday, May 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's a pick-up only event, so you have to give them a call prior to 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 30. The Allen Sapp Gallery Healing Garden is getting ready for another season with a Spring Planting and Tea to be held Saturday, June 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. The garden is a place for learning about the native plants of Saskatchewan and their traditional uses for medicine. All are welcome to help in tending and harvesting such plants as sweetgrass, echinacea, mint and saskatoon berry. The garden is located behind the Allen Sapp Gallery in North Battleford.
In partnership with the Healing Garden event there will be a by-donation yoga event to get everybody warmed up for working in the garden. From 11 a.m. to noon, Mandy Lehman from Pure Essence studio in North Battleford will be leading a one-hour vinyasa yoga flow. Bring your own mat.
June 1 is also the day for the Battlefords Vintage Auto Club Show and Shine 2013. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Territorial Place Mall in North Battleford. Vote for your favourite!
