A tender for doing a spray foam roof for Hafford School should be going out in August, says Living Sky School Division's facilities manager.

Brian Bossaer told board of education members at their last meeting that he, colleague Al Highton and Chief Financial Officer Lonny Darroch recently met with the division's roof consultant, a spray foam manufacturer and a spray foam distributor about setting standards for the successful use of spray foam.

Bossaer indicated spray foam has not had a good reputation, but that's been the fault of incorrect application, rather than the product itself. If used properly, he sees a significant savings over the cost of a traditional roof, perhaps 66 per cent.

He has proposed to use Hafford School as a test of the product, based on standards that will be set between the division's roofing consultant, Roof Management Inspection Services, and the spray foam manufacturer, Polysource. They will be developing standards for a roof with a 20-year warranty, said Bossaer.

"We've got to move forward with this and do it right, and get a true test underway."

Darroch, who also attended the meeting, said it was not the product, but the application, the engineers were skeptical about. But the attitude changed during the meeting.

"It looks very promising," said Darroch.
