Hearing set in Black Lake court for Arley Cook's accused killer

BLACK LAKE – A preliminary hearing has been set in Black Lake circuit court for a man accused of killing 27-year-old Arley Cook.

Jerrick Stalthanee, 21, of Black Lake First Nation, is charged with second-degree murder in Cook’s death. The hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for Stalthanee to stand trial is scheduled to start on Sept. 21. The charge against Stalthanee hasn’t been tested in court.

Black Lake RCMP say that around 9:10 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2021, they received a call about a suspicious death on Black Lake First Nation. Officers found Cook deceased at a home.

According to an obituary on McKenzie Funeral Chapel, Cook was born in Prince Albert. He left behind two children.

Black Lake First Nation is located in Northern Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin region.
