After countless hours of planning and preparation, Prairie North Health Region's third Regional Accreditation Survey came June 4.

Eight surveyors with Accreditation Canada concluded their week long visit to Prairie North with a general debriefing. The overall assessment highlighted the Region's successes as well as challenges, with commendations on what is working well within the region and recommendations for areas that could be improved upon.

"The surveyors commended Prairie North for our increased focus on patient safety, for our strides in the use of Lean methodologies, and for our responsive pandemic planning," says David Fan, CEO of Prairie North Health Region.

"They recognized that we face challenges but also noted that we are continually working to address these challenges and applauded our efforts in this endeavour."

During their six days in the health region, May 31 to June 4, the surveyors visited 12 sites and reviewed 66 priority processes. They met and interviewed the senior leadership team, all 19 accreditation teams and focus groups of community partners, staff and clients. In their debriefing, the surveyors identified the strengths and challenges for each group/area.

"The strengths identified were many and the areas for improvement held no surprises," says Fan.

The Region will receive its accreditation decision within 10 days. Accreditation Canada makes its determination based on the assessment of the surveyors, and PNRHA eagerly awaits that report.
