The Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords is encouraging the public to think of the hungry, homeless and hurting in the Battlefords and how they can offer them hope, dignity and change.
The Lighthouse is happy to accept financial donations and also welcomes volunteers.
In addition, there are a number of items on a wish list that would make a difference to its clients: underwear (men's and women's), mittens, warm jackets, canned vegetables, turkeys, hams, powdered juice mix, sandwich meat, granola bars, snack size apple sauce, juice boxes, toothbrushes, travel-sized toothpaste, feminine products, disposable razors, bath towel and socks.
Here are some statistics on the impact The Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords has made in the community this year:
• More than 200 meals are being prepared for breakfast, lunch and dinner every week. On average The Lighthouse serves 2,200 meals a month.
• 15 per cent of the clients accessing the meal program are children, 10 per cent are youth and 10 per cent are seniors.
• Since opening its doors it has housed 36 individuals from the shelter into the community, setting them up with the basic necessities such as furniture and housewares through the community’s donations.
• The Lighthouse has provided for 405 different individuals in the emergency shelter from Jan. 26 to Nov. 30.
• 47 of those staying in the emergency shelter were children accessing with a parent.
"We could not continue without your kindness towards those in need in our community. Thank you again for giving hope, dignity and change," say The Lighthouse staff. "Donate today to ensure there is a warm place for everyone this Christmas!"
