Lawyer for man accused of robbing Paradise Hill business withdraws

Jesse Lewis appeared in Lloydminster court by phone from the correctional centre on Wednesday

LLOYDMINSTER – A lawyer for a man charged in connection to a robbery at a Paradise Hill business withdrew as his counsel Wednesday, saying he was required to do so but didn't state the reason.

Jesse Lewis appeared in Lloydminster court by phone from the correctional centre. He has been in custody since he was arrested a month ago.

According to Turtleford and Onion Lake RCMP, an armed man stole a vehicle from a business in Paradise Hill, before driving off. The victim wasn’t physically injured. Police found the stolen vehicle on Highway 797 and tried pulling it over but the driver didn’t stop and drove west. Police set up a spike belt and the vehicle was stopped. The driver fled on foot but police apprehended him after a brief chase.

Lewis was charged with robbery with a restricted firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime, failing to stop for a peace officer, carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence, and dangerous driving. The charges against Lewis haven’t been proven in court.

His matter was adjourned for two weeks to give him time to re-apply for legal aid. He appears again on March 16 by CCTV
