Man arrested after fatal hit and run

Battlefords RCMP are currently investigating a fatal hit and run collision that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 25 on the Sweetgrass First Nation. Police were called to the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m.

Battlefords RCMP are currently investigating a fatal hit and run collision that occurred on the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 25 on the Sweetgrass First Nation. 

Police were called to the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m. when a male was located suffering from significant injuries lying near a grid road. The male was air lifted by STARS ambulance to Saskatoon Royal University Hospital. He passed away while in hospital on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 26.

A 35-year-old male was arrested shortly before 10 a.m. the morning of Thursday, Nov. 26 and has since been charged in connection with this incident. 

The victim is believed to have been walking along the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle being operated by the accused. Police have also seized a vehicle believed to have been operated by the accused at the time of the collision.

The accused in this matter is scheduled to make his first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m.
