Man who escaped police custody appears in Deschambault Lake court

Keith McCallum was on the run for eight days before being recaptured. 

DESCHAMBAULT LAKE – A 22-year-old man who escaped police custody was arrested after eight days on the run and appeared in Deschambault Lake circuit court Monday.

Deschambault Lake RCMP say that Keith McCallum escaped and fled on foot around 6:30 p.m. on May 4 when he was being escorted to a parked police vehicle.

McCallum was appearing in court at the time on charges of theft of a vehicle, possession of stolen property, break and enter, and failing to comply with release conditions. He was additionally charged with escaping lawful custody.

Deschambault Lake RCMP located and arrested McCallum on May 12.

McCallum has a show cause hearing scheduled in Deschambault Lake circuit court July 6.

The charges against him haven’t been proven in court.
