It was a busy weekend for swimming clubs from across the province, including Melfort and Nipawin, as they competed in the provincial championships in Watrous.
The Aug. 5-6 meet saw a total of 218 swimmers from 16 different clubs participating.
Melfort Marlins
The Marlins took seven swimmers to the championships where they enjoyed a moderate amount of success as they picked up just a single aggregate points medal and finished tenth overall in the team points competition, missing out on fourth by less than 250 points.
Reese Nelson captured the Marlins’ lone aggregate points medal, a silver in the 15-17 boys competition, where he piled up 62 points, and missed out on the provincial title by just one point.
In addition to their one aggregate points medal, the Marlins brought home 13 medals in individual races, including five gold, four silver and four bronze.
The Marlins also claimed a solid number of medals in relay races, winning six gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals.
Nipawin Lions
The Lions took just four swimmers to the championships where they enjoyed a moderate amount of success as they picked up just a single aggregate points medal, and finished 13th overall in the team points competition, missing out on a top ten by less than 150 points.
Keaton Mollberg captured the Lions’ lone aggregate points medal, a bronze in the 15-17 boys competition, where he piled up 57 points, and missed out on the provincial title by just six points.
In addition to their one aggregate points medal, the Lions brought home five medals in individual races, with three of them being gold medals, and the other two being silver medals.
The Lions also claimed a decent number of medals in relay races, winning three gold medals, and two bronze medals.
The end of provincials marks the end of the swimming season, as they will be out of the pool until next summer.
