EAST CENTRAL — With July quickly approaching, the Melfort Exhibition has been cancelled.
Kim Eskowich, manager of the Melfort Agricultural Society which runs the exhibition, said holding the event this summer has no longer become feasible.
“It was a tough decision, but we have to follow the health department’s guidelines and keep everyone’s safety in mind and at this point it just need not seem feasible for us to have an event with large gatherings,” Eskowich said, adding that both West Coast Amusements and the chuckwagons have cancelled.
West Coast Amusements has been in charge of their midway in previous years.
“Given the fact that we wouldn’t have West Coast Amusements here, and we were very uncertain about what the social guidelines will be for crowd gatherings, it does not appear like we’ll be able to permit large crowds.”
Eskowich said that while the exhibition is cancelled, the society may hold events over the summer, if the health guidelines permit.
“At this point we don’t have anything firm.”
