Missing canoers found deceased in the waters of Long Whitefish Lake

BIG RIVER - A man and woman who went missing Oct. 19 on Long Whitefish Lake have been found. Both are deceased.

Big River RCMP report that on Oct. 22, the missing male and female were located deceased in the water. Their families have been notified.

The Big River detachment received a report that two canoers were overdue to return on Oct. 19 at approximately 8:20 p.m.

Investigation has determined that an adult male and adult female had gone canoeing on Long Whitefish Lake earlier that day. When they did not return, family contacted police.

Community members, Big River RCMP, Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association began actively searching for the missing male and female. Their canoe was recovered, but the bodies were not found until Oct. 22.

Big River RCMP thanks the Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers, the Lloydminster Rescue Squad and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association for their assistance locating them.

“Our thoughts are with their families during this difficult time,” stated an RCMP release.
