N.B. man flees stuck utility vehicle, caught by police dog unit

Maidstone RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in the RM of Wilton.

MAIDSTONE — A North Battleford man has been charged after a break and enter in the RM of Wilton area.

Around 3 p.m. July 5, Maidstone RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter in the RM of Wilton, south of Lloydminster. An unknown number of suspects were reported to be travelling in a black car that had left the property and was last seen travelling into the city of Lloydminster.

Another suspect was reported to be operating a side-by-side utility vehicle, which was located abandoned and damaged in a swamp in the same RM of Wilton area, and the suspect continued on foot.

Maidstone, Kitscoty and Vermilion (both in Alberta RCMP jurisdiction) RCMP Detachments secured the immediate area. Additional assistance was provided by the Lloydminster Rescue Squad. Cold Lake, Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services attended to help search for the suspect. Around 6:45 p.m., an adult male was arrested by Cold Lake RCMP Police Dog Services.

A 38-year-old North Battleford man is charged with break and enter, flight from police and possession of stolen property.

There was also an outstanding warrant for the suspect’s arrest out of Kitscoty RCMP Detachment and Cut Knife Detachment for separate investigations of break and enter, theft and trespassing.

Continued investigation determined the side-by-side utility vehicle was reported stolen out of Vermilion, Alta., area.
