NORTH BATTLEFORD — Building permit numbers were way up in North Battleford in the month of June.

According to the June building permit statistics presented to council at their meeting Monday at Don Ross Centre, seven permits were issued that month for $9,519,400, up from six permits issued for $207,000 for the same month in 2021.

Director of Corporate Services Jennifer Niesink pointed to one permit taken out for the apartment project in Fairview Heights that is valued at $8 million.

This was widely considered good news, as it was noted at the meeting there has not been a new apartment building project in a number of years, perhaps since the early 1990s. More recently, there have been a number of new condo constructed.

Councillor Greg Lightfoot welcomed the development. "I'm glad to see that apartment going up. It's going to fill a void, it's really good."

Also driving the positive numbers for June was one new industrial project for $1,295,400, for the second phase of the new Co-op fertilizer storage facility.

The other five permits issued in June included a new garage, an industrial alteration, a demolition/removal and two sign permits. Together those totalled $224,000.

Overall, 2022 building permits stand at 54 permits for $20,470,300 through June, up from 51 permits for $9,520,600 for the same period in 2021.
