CARROT RIVER — The Carrot River Board of Trade has opened up nominations for the 6th annual Business Excellence Awards Gala, which will be done entirely virtually this year.
The award video will go live on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. through the Carrot River Recreation Board Facebook pages as well as carrotriver.ca.
“2020 was a year that definitely set everybody back a bit and forced us to roll with the punches so to speak, we had to be adaptable on the fly,” said Miranda Blaber, Carrot River's community development manager.
“It may have changed our year, but it didn’t change the fact that we had businesses, employees, individuals, organizations rising to the occasion and doing what they do best.”
The video will feature each of the winners being told they are receiving the award at their doorstep, similar to 2020.
“It’s a surprise when they get notified and we capture that on video.”
There are six awards for members of the community including the Rural Roots Award, for a farm family that demonstrated innovative ideas and business practices that maximized productivity and profitability on their RM of Moose Range farm; the High School Student Employee of the Year; Employee of the Year; Community Event Award; Business of the Year Award; and Citizen of the Year Award.
Nominations close on March 1, and may be made through email [email protected] or drop them off at the town office.
Decisions are based upon the amount of detail included in the nomination for the adjudicators to make their decision.
“There are so many deserving individuals out there, and business owners, and operators,” Blaber said. “Just because 2020 was a little bit different doesn’t mean people weren’t exceptional, that they didn’t rise to the challenge or aren’t worthy of nomination.”
