NORTH BATTLEFORD — The City of North Battleford is looking to host a major training symposium and AGM this fall.

At Monday’s meeting, council authorized a request by Fire Chief Lindsay Holm and the North Battleford Fire Department to host the Saskatchewan Volunteer Firefighters Annual Fall Training Symposium and AGM.

North Battleford had previously submitted an application to host the symposium in 2020 but the event was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

This would be the first event for the Saskatchewan Volunteer Firefighters since the pandemic started. It would run for four days and be held in either late October or early November.

At council, Holm said hosting the event would support their strategic plan in terms of being a regional hub and in providing services to other communities. North Battleford has hosted the event twice before in the past.

“Every time we’ve hosted it we’ve had really good reviews and they really enjoyed the training we were able to put on for them,” said Holm.
