A hazmat awareness course was held in St Walburg Oct. 18 and 19.
There are so many trucks travelling roads and through towns and villages North West Mutual Aid decided information on how to better protect residents and to prepare health care facilities was needed.
Of special focus were emergency responders, with the goal to equip them with the ability to recognize the dangers that may be involved with an accident or another incident. Some participants have trains rolling through their towns and some have experienced derailments.
This was a certificate course Level 1 NFPA 472. This course talked about proper use of the emergency response guide, protective gear and how to set up a decontamination shower on site.
There was a good turnout of participants from Meota, Pierceland, Lashburn, Edam, Mervin, Turtleford, Paradise Hill and St. Walburg. The feedback received so far has been very positive.
The success of the course was due to the generous sponsorship of local credit unions and the Town of St. Walburg and a host of volunteers.
