OLCN man pleads guilty to hitting, killing youth on dirt bike

Courtney Cook pleaded guilty to hitting and killing a 13-year-old youth on a dirt bike

LLOYDMINSTER – An Onion Lake man charged with hitting and killing a 13-year old youth on a dirt bike pleaded guilty in Lloydminster court Wednesday.

Courtney Cook, 28, was charged in connection to an incident on Onion Lake Cree Nation on April 25, 2021. Police had received a phone call that a person was struck by a vehicle in front of a home on Chief Taylor Road. Police and Emergency Medical Services attended and found the youth deceased at the scene of the collision.

Cook was charged with failing to stop after an accident causing death and driving while impaired.

A pre-sentence report that will canvass Gladue factors was ordered. Cook will be sentenced June 15.
