HUMBOLDT — Businesses that want to take part in one of the largest projects this region has ever seen can get more information in an upcoming online event.

BHP, together with engineering, procurement and construction management partner Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture; the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce; and the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce, are holding a webinar giving more details on how local business can participate with building the Jansen potash mine on Thursday, Feb. 3, starting at 10 a.m.

Brent Fitzpatrick, the Humboldt chamber’s executive director, said the event came about after he chatted to BHP about what he was hearing from local business owners.

“A lot of people are asking about how to enter into a business arrangement with them,” he said.

That in turn led to conversations with BHP’s team, then the Saskatchewan chamber. In the end, it was decided to do one big event – this one – for the entire province.

For BHP, local means the entire province.

Fitzpatrick will be moderating the event.

“I'm very humbled to be a part of this,” he said. “This is a big project and just to be involved in is something that I take great pride in.”

The event will begin with an overview from BHP and an overview from Hatch Bantrel, which is co-ordinating the work on the ground. Then, there will be a question and answer session. Fitzpatrick said with the interest in the event, it will be a challenge to answer them all.

“What we're trying to do is to ensure that all of the important questions are ticked off and we've, we've got those covered.”

The event will end around 11:30 a.m.

Signing up for the free event can be done on the Sask. chamber's website.
