PRINCE ALBERT – The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Prince Albert Monday that resulted in one person dying.

According to Prince Albert Police Service, during an investigation a male was shot by police at about 10:40 p.m. on Jan. 16. The man was taken to hospital and later pronounced deceased. Police haven't released the name or age of the victim.

SIRT will investigate the circumstances of the officer-involved shooting.

PAPS issued a statement Tuesday morning saying they believe in processes that seek facts and it’s important that processes taken to assess the actions of all those involved – including police – are fair, transparent, and defendable.

“We are fully cooperating with SIRT and SIRT’s investigation is ongoing,” said PAPS Inspector Lisa Simonson.

Police are asking the public to avoid the 400 block of South Industrial Drive during a heavy police presence. Traffic in the area will be disrupted and diverted for the next several hours. Police say there are no public safety concerns as a result of this incident.
