Preliminary hearing set for man accused of attacking 74-year-old

Jordan Nelson was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after a senior was attacked

MEADOW LAKE – A preliminary hearing has been set for a 30-year-old man charged with attacking a 74-year-old man and then fleeing with an axe.

The hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for Jordan Andrew Scott Nelson to stand trial on attempted murder and aggravated assault charges is set for Nov. 22 in Meadow Lake Provincial Court. A Mental Health Assessment (MHA) of Nelson was previously ordered and it was determined he was fit to stand trial.

Nelson was arrested in March 2021 after an incident the day prior. Meadow Lake RCMP say they received a report March 10, 2021, that a serious assault had occurred in a rural area in the R. M. of Meadow Lake. The victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.

Police had issued a SaskAlert warning the public that a dangerous man with a large axe or edged weapon was at large. Officers from multiple detachments searched for Nelson and he was arrested shortly after without incident in Meadow Lake.

Police say the victim and Nelson were known to each other.

The charges against Nelson haven't been proven in court.
