Battleford woman evading police since Jan. 2021 arrested in Calgary

Charmaine Bear was first charged in January of 2021.

THE BATTLEFORDS — Charmaine Brett Bear, also known as Charmaine Spyglass, has been located in Calgary, Alta., and was arrested without incident. Police have been seeking Bear, a woman from Battleford, for more than a year.

The woman known to frequent the Lloydminster, North Battleford, Mosquito First Nation and Saskatoon had also been seen in the Edmonton area, so a warrant for her arrest had been extended Alberta-wide.

She was charged in by RCMP January, 2021 with:

  • 1 count, failing to provide the necessaries of life, Section 215 of the Criminal Code
  • 1 count, Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, Section 221 of the Criminal Code.

As a result of continued investigation, Charmaine Bear also faces additional charges of:

  • 1 count, aggravated assault, section 268(2) of the Criminal Code
  •  2 counts, assault, section 266 of the Criminal Code
  •  2 counts, uttering threats, section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

This investigation began in December, 2020 when Battlefords RCMP and North Battleford RCMP General Investigation Services received a report of alleged child abuse.
