The City of North Battleford is again reminding residents that they are recycling trees into chips for mulch.
The mulch is used in tree and shrub beds and is designed to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth.
In a news release, the City reminded residents they no longer conduct back-alley pickup of Christmas trees due to fewer residents using real trees.
Instead, one free drop-off location is available at the City of North Battleford Parks and Recreation Shop located at 11202-8th Ave., between the regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The service runs Dec. 30 to Jan. 30, 2016. Alternatively, residents can take their trees to the Waste Management Facility during regular hours at the regular charged price.
The City also reminds people the importance for all lights, string, wire, ornaments, tinsel, fake snow and bags to be removed before recycling the tree. These could damage city equipment or become mixed into the mulch, degrading its usefulness.
