The Smile Cookie program worked wonders this year, raising $10,500 for the Battlefords Union Hospital.

Each year, the three local Tim Hortons restaurants choose a charity within the community, where all proceeds from their  chocolate chunk cookie sales are donated during one week of September.

Marion and Brett Michnik, who own the Tim Hortons on Railway Avenue and in Battleford, would like to thank the community for their contribution. The program started in 1996 and Marion Michnik says this year turned out to be one of the best when it came to raising money.

Executive director of Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation, Claudette McGuire, says she is pleased the three local Tim Hortons agreed to support the BUH Foundation in their Capital Campaign to raise funds to purchase SIDNE, which supports the emergency room PARTY Program (Prevent Alcohol Related Trauma in Youth).

“We are very appreciative of the community for supporting this campaign and of course we are really appreciative of the three local Tim Hortons,” McGuire says. “The Smile Cookie campaign raised $5.3 million over Canada.”

SIDNE is a battery-operated go-kart that provides a hands-on, engaging lesson about the misuse and abuse of alcohol and other drugs. It also helps build understanding of the dangers of distracted driving through a visual, hands-on experience.
