Progress continues on a new Wellness Centre in Melfort.
There will be a sod-turning event for the facility March 22, at the hospital grounds.
“Apparently, most of the conditions of moving forward have been satisfied,” said Rick Lang, Melfort’s mayor, at the March 13 council meeting. “I think there’s one issue that’s still being worked on, but they feel that will be all solved before the 22nd so the ground-breaking is being scheduled for that date in the afternoon.”
The ceremony will include the city, the surrounding RMs, doctors, Kelsey Trail Health Region and Avatex Development Corp.
The facility is a partnership between the city and Avatex, which is dealing with the construction tender.
“Last I heard, there were a couple of minor surprises with respect to the cost of the overall facility, but that doesn’t impact the City of Melfort at all because our commitment has been pegged at $1.5 million,” Lang said. “That’s what we’re committed to and that’s all we’re committed to.”
Avatex will bear any increased costs arising from the tender, the mayor said.
