Crown Hill 4-H Beef Club held its annual public speaking competition March 3 at the Blaine Lake Composite school gymnasium. Family and friends gathered to support the youth and hear the 19 presentations from the Cloverbud, junior, intermediate and senior members.

It is not easy to stand in front of an audience of adults and peers and present a speech ranging from one to six minutes; however, these participants should be commended for their efforts. Each participant stood tall, selected a relevant topic and did a wonderful job presenting their speeches.

Judges Christie Dargin-Linsley, Connie Jessop, Larissa Matechuk and Vivian Nemish had a challenge adjudicating the speeches that ranged from personal experiences such as driving, participating in sports and pets to chores, the winter season and more.

In the Cloverbud category, Cheyanne Roth placed first, Hunter Reid placed second and Boden Letkeman placed third. In the junior class, Courtney Yasieniuk placed first, Justin Yasieniuk placed second and Jamie Attrux placed third. Intermediate class first place recipient was Kolten Yasieniuk; Duncan Sutherland placed second and Brittany Attrux placed third. Senior competitors placing were Kira Casavant in first, Anna Verbonac in second and Clay Casavant in third. The remaining members received participation certificates.

Members placing first and second will advance onto regional speak-offs to be held within the next few weeks.
