The 2013 Staples for Schools drive was launched Monday at the Staples location at Frontier Mall in North Battleford.

The idea of the program is to provide those children in need with the tools and items they need for the school year.

Staples staff showed off the supplies they are donating to local schools, in partnership with the Battlefords United Way.

Karen Martel, executive director of Battlefords United Way, said they were happy to partner with Staples in the project. Staples asked Battlefords United Way to facilitate the contact with area schools to let them know about the program.

According to Staples local general manager Faye Schlemmer, supplies were donated to Connaught, Lawrence, McKitrick and St. Mary schools. On Monday, supplies were delivered to some very appreciative students at Lawrence School and later at St. Mary School.

In 2012 over $1.3 million in school supplies were donated by Staples to children in need across Canada and that total has been matched again this year. Money was raised at Staples through fundraising from customers at the time of purchase, as well as by staff.
