HUMBOLDT — Rapid antigen self test kits to detect COVID-19 are available at three locations in Humboldt.

They can be found at City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce Office from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and the Canalta Hotel during its operational hours.

“Our organization is just thrilled to be able to do this,” said Brent Fitzpatrick, the chamber’s executive director. “I really feel that while we are a business-oriented organization, we are, as well, a community organization and this is something that we can do to get these kits out to where they need to be.”

There’s no need to call ahead for the Canalta to get the tests. At City Hall, the tests can be obtained at the front desk. At the chamber office, people are asked to wait in their vehicle, while chamber staff give their kits to them.

There will be one kit given to each household at this time. They are available on a first come, first served basis.

“The demand is quite high,” said Lori Yaworski, the City of Humboldt’s director of corporate services on Oct. 25. “We've gone through lots already this morning.”

The kits work within 15 minutes. They will not be accepted as valid proof of negative COVID-19 test results. Those that have a positive test are asked to call HealthLine 811 to arrange for a confirmatory lab PCR test.
