Of the big three communities in the Northeast, Tisdale is the oldest while Nipawin is the youngest.
According to 2016 census results released May 3 by Statistics Canada, 28.4 per cent of Tisdale’s population – 920 people – is 65 years old or older. On the opposite end of the scale, 16.5 per cent – 535 people – are 15 years old and younger. The town has a total population of 3,235.
Nipawin has 19.7 per cent of its population – 865 – under the age of 15. For seniors, their percentage of the population is 23.8 per cent – 1,045 people. The town’s population is 4,400.
In Melfort, 19.3 per cent of its population – 1,155 – was under the age of 15. Of the city’s 5,990 people, 22.1 per cent – 1,325, were seniors.
The ratio of women to men was the same for each community. For every 27 women, there were 23 men.
