The auditor’s report came before Battleford town council Monday, submitted by Amber Volk, CPA, CA from the auditing firm Holm Raiche Oberg, Chartered Professional Accountants P.C. Ltd.

The report was submitted on behalf of Dallan D. Oberg, CPA CA with the firm. Mayor Derek Mahon welcomed the report and noted Oberg had mentioned “the town is in what he would classify as good shape.”

The following are some of the highlights from the auditor’s presentation:

The town’s revenue reported a loss of $2,820,257 compared to the budgeted revenues of $7,078,249. If the disposal of tangible capital assets is disregarded then total revenues are $7,895,115, greater than the budgeted revenues.

The loss on disposal of tangible capital assets equaled $10,715,372, with that sum related to disposal of Highway 4. With the twinning of the highway, the highway actually became town property, then, in 2014, ownership was transferred back to the Ministry of Highways.

For 2014 operating expenditures were $5,984,528, comparable to the budgeted operating expenditure of $5,597,960.

The town spent $2,006,924 on capital projects in 2014 which included improvements to paving and sidewalks, improvements to the North Saskatchewan River bridge, purchase of a new Zamboni and other capital highlights.

The town’s unappropriated surplus went down $245,824 from $1,514,169 to an ending balance of $1,268,345.
