Update: Deaths of two women found in burned house determined to be homicide

Shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, Battlefords RCMP responded to a report of a house fire on the 1000 block of 108th Street in North Battleford.

NORTH BATTLEFORD — Update Dec. 30: As a result of continued investigation by the Saskatchewan RCMP, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, the deaths of the two people located after a fire at a residence in North Battleford are now considered homicides.

Autopsies were completed by the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service on Dec. 29. Cause of death will not be released as the information is part of the ongoing investigation.

The deceased people have been identified as 25-year-old Alyssa LeCaine from North Battleford and 20-year-old Daphne Bear from Sweetgrass First Nation. Their families have been notified.

Alyssa and Daphne were located in a residence on 108th Street in North Battleford after North Battleford Fire Department responded to a fire there on December 24. The cause of the fire will be investigated by a provincial fire investigator with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency.

Background Dec. 25: North Battleford RCMP, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, is conducting a death investigation after two deceased people were discovered in a house fire on Friday, Dec. 24.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by a provincial fire investigator with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency. The Saskatchewan RCMP and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service will investigate the two deaths.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, North Battleford RCMP responded to a report of a house fire on the 1000 block of 108th Street in North Battleford. North Battleford Fire Department was already on scene when police arrived.

In a search of the property, North Battleford Fire Department located two deceased people, which resulted in a death investigation being started by police and the coroner. The deceased people have not been identified at this time.

No evacuations of nearby residences were required. There will continue to be an increased presence of emergency responders in the area for the next several days as a result of the fire and death investigations. We do not have further information to provide at this time.

RCMP ask the public to please refrain from traveling in this area of 108th Street unless you are a nearby resident.
